Mosiah

Mosiah 1

Benjamin knew peace his final days

Contention ceased, they lived in holy ways

He had three sons and caused them to be taught

To the knowledge of their fathers brought

The language and engravings from the past

Delivered them from ignorance and hast

Preserved them by their God’s all powerful hand

Receiving His commandments, they withstand

Remember that these sayings, they are true

The plates of brass and Nephi’s record too

Remember, search them diligently, please

And ye shall find in them the Lord’s decrees

Proclaimed to all who gather, everyone

Declare Mosiah king, his reign begun

Mosiah 2

Gathered to the temple

Benjamin to hear

Took the firstlings of the flock

Gave thanks for all that's dear

Trifle not with my words

But hearken unto me

Open up your ears and hearts

And eyes, that ye may see

I am myself a mortal man

Been suffered to spend my days

To serve you and to teach you

To walk in holy ways

I teach you to learn wisdom

To serve your fellow man

For when you’re serving them on earth

You’re also serving Him

Consider on the happy state

Of those that follow God

They are blessed in heart and hand

Receive His kingdom, awed

Mosiah 3

The Lord, omnipotent, who reigns on high

Shall dwell in a tabernacle of clay

Healing the sick and raising the dead

His might through miracles display

He shall suffer, temptations pain, and thirst

His blood drop from every pore

That salvation might come to the children of men

Through faith on his name evermore

He’ll be discouraged and be crucified on to death

On the third day, He’ll rise again

His blood for the sins of the world is shed

His atonement to cover our sin

There is no other name and no other way

That salvation can come onto men

It’s only in and through the Christ

That we are whole again

For the natural man’s and enemy to God

And has been from the fall

Unless he yields to the Holy Ghost

And give his heart and all

Become as a child, submissive, and Meek

Humble and full of love

Willing to submit our will

To our father up above

Mosiah 4

King Benjamin made an end of his words

The fear of the Lord on them fell

They cried in one voice, oh have mercy on us

Our purified hearts in Him swell

Filled with joy through remission of sins

Peace of conscience and exceeding faith

We’ve come to acknowledge of the goodness of God

Put our trust in the Lord, what he saith

Believe in God, believe that he is

That he created and brings

Believe in his wisdom and power and might

Comprehending all things

If you’ve known of his goodness and tasted his love

Received a remission of sins

Always remember and keep your heart

With the greatness of God, it begins

He’ll be filled with his love and walk peaceful ways

You’ll not suffer your children to starve

For physical or for spiritual food

With soreness teach others to serve

Are we not all beggars who call upon God?

For remission of sin we plead

Oh, then how we ought to impart of our goods

To our brothers and sisters in need

Watch yourselves, your words and your deeds

Observe the commandments with thought

Continue now in the faith that you’ve heard

Oh remember and parish not

Mosiah 5

The people all cried in a unified voice

We believe all your words

For our hearts are changed by the power of God

They sing as the warbling birds

We are willing to enter a covenant with God

To obedience and taking his name

Will be called the daughters and sons of Christ

Take his name mid scorn and shame

Retain in our hearts, his name always written

And on his right hand, you’ll be found

For how knoweth a man whom he has not served

But be called by his name and crowned

Be steadfast and always abound in good works

That the Lord may seal you his

Brought to heavenly light and life

Through his power and mercy it is

Mosiah 6

King Benjamin, in his final act

Recorded the people’s names

All of those who would follow God

And remember their heavenly aims

Mosiah now to reign in his instead

He was 30 years of age

The new king did walk in the ways of the Lord

As his father had on that stage

Not wanting to burden the people more

He did tell the earth

And caused that his people should do the same

Their independence of worth

Mosiah 7

King Limhi shares the story of his people

Of all their suffering for choosing evil

His father, Noah slaid, Abinadi

Rejecting prophets words many die

Rejoicing now that Ammon is among them

Come from Zarahemla to the land Shem

Hope for finding freedom and a way home

For deliverance and guidance as they roam

A broken branch in Nephi will return

To the faith as from mistakes, they learn

Mosiah 8

Ammon tells the story of Zarahemla

From the time that Zeniff left the land

Limhi tells of searching for their brethren

But only found the ruins mid the sand

A record found of brass among the ruins

With hidden words to witness of their fall

I need for someone who could translate plainly

A sear a prophet who he’s the savior’s call

How marvellous the words of God among us

How blind and hard the hearts of men can be

A wild flock fleeing from the Shepherd

Who call us to us all, will we not free?

Mosiah 9

Zeniff lead a group from Zarahemla

To the land of Nephi whence they came

Seeking out the land of their first father’s

Amongst the Lamanites, they stake a claim

King Laman gave the land of Lehi-Nephi

Unto Zeniff with a cunning plan

Let them build and till the ground to prosper

Glut themselves on the labour of our hands

In the thirteenth year, a numerous army

Came upon our land, began to slay

In the strength of God, we went to battle

Drive them out when victory for the day

Mosiah 10

Twenty two years we had peace in the land

Made weapons in case of war

Guarded our borders while telling the earth

Hoping to see no more

King Laman died his son took his place

And began his people to stir

Up in rebellion against my kin

Just as his ancestors were

Generations had passed the bitter renewed

Being wronged and feeling wroth

This hatred inspired the Lamanite cause

Left them fighting alone, to death

We did go up in the strength of the Lord

Did contend with them face-to-face

A great slaughter so many we did not count

And returned again to our place

Thus we see that the hand of the Lord is great

That his promises made are sure

To those that repent and rely on his word

In righteousness, they will endure

Mosiah 11

Zeniffs wicked son, king Noah

Reigned now in his stead

He walked after his lusts and whims

And from the Lord, he fled

He attacked the people getting rich

Placed his heart on gold

Put down the priests and raised his own

Helped keep his wicked hold

On the people who were deceived

By words of vanity

With their leaders walked in pride

Living riotously

Laminate armies came again

And in his wickedness

Boasted in their own arms strength

Fought in sinfulness

Abinadi declared their wo

They must repent or else

In bondage, they would find themselves

With no divine helps

The people hard against his word

Were blind to see the light

Sought to slay Abinadi

‘Gainst man and God they fight

Mosiah 12

Prophecy of Abinadi a warning

Philosophies of men will lead to mourning

Bondage, burdens, sore afflictions, death

A hostage now endure priests, threatening breath

Crossed and questioned seeking to confuse

Tossed into the midst of them to lose

Boldly he withstood their accusations

Holding them accountable to this great nation

Confronted with the power of his word

Affronted and not trembling ‘fore the Lord

Abinadi will lay out the Commandments

Set to die, yields all worldly attachments

Mosiah 13

Away with this fellow to slay him now

Put him out for he is mad

Attempting to lay their hands on him

Rebuffed by the power he had

Touch me not for God shall smite you down

My message I’ve delivered not

But I must fulfill the Lord’s command

Ensure repentance is taught

Now they durst not put their hands on him

For he shone with the power of God

Like Moses while on Siani’s mount

His accusers left stunned and awed

The ten commands of Moses of old

Were taught and clarified

Pointing to the chosen one

The lamb of God who’ll die

Hardened hearts, both then and now

Reject the holy one

Deafness to the prophet’s word

They justify they run

God himself shall come among

The children of mankind

To redeem from sin and death

Those who seek him find

Mosiah 14 (Isaiah 53)

Isaiah’s words about the Son

A tender plant grown up

He has no form or comeliness

No beauty to hold up

Rejected and despised of men

Of sorrows, acquainted with grief

And we hid as it were our faces from him

Was despised in disbelief

He’s borne our grief and carried our pain

Yet we esteemed him stricken

Bruised for our iniquities

With his stripes, we’re quickened

All we like sheep have gone astray

Turned to his own ways

The Lord hath laid us on his back

Iniquities to pay

He was oppressed and opened not

His mouth before the smiter

Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him such

Our burdens lifted lighter

With a rich, his death was had

His grave with wicked men

Intercession for the lost

His soul poured out for them

Mosiah 15

God himself shall come down with mankind

As the son of God, dwells in the flesh

And as eternal father made divine

The father and the son in one refresh

Crucified and slain the flesh now dead

The sons will swallowed up inside the fathers

Victory over death, God at its head

Intercession for his sons and daughters

The holy prophets since the world began

Published peace, brought tidings of great good

Beautiful their feet on mountains span

He has redeemed his people, all who would

The bonds of death are broken, Christ has one

All the earth will see salvation come

Mosiah 16

The devil is, and wages war upon us

Through carnal thoughts and worldly selfish lusts

All mankind a lost and fallen state

If not redeemed through him who wore the weight

Death is swallowed up in Christ to the Lord

He is the light and life that fills the world

A light that’s endless never to be dark

A life that’s endless in his hands the mark

The law of Moses, a shadow of things to come

Redemption through the Christ, we can become

Mosiah 17

The flames lick up the tortured flesh

In agony of soul

He cried out in a prophet’s voice

His warning sent to all

For this atrocity thy seed

Be scattered as the beasts

Affliction, both disease and death

Awaits ye wicked priests

I’ve put myself into your hands

That you may know the word

In life or death I'll not recall

The message that you’ve heard

A spark inside of Alma’s soul

Ignited with the truth

An ember of prophetic line

Started with this youth

Like he of whom was prophesied

Abinadi was slain

A martyr for the gospel’s sake

A man of sorrow and pain

Mosiah 18

Buried in the water, pure, in Mormon

Born again into the fold of God

Mourning with the widow and the fatherless

Walking where the broken heart has trod

Preaching nothing save it were repentance

Faith in the Redeemer, Lord above

Knitting hearts together now in unity

One towards another showing love

Mosiah 19

Haiku

The harvest is reaped

Bondage for iniquity

Prophets words fulfilled

Mosiah 20

The wicked priests of Noah stole their daughters

The Lamanites, in anger, come to war

King Limhi and his people defend themselves

Like dragons fight for family, life, and more

A victory and a miracle is witnessed

King Laman is among the dead though not

His wounds are bound, he’s brought before King Limhi

And explains why their vengeful angers hot

Gideon, true and full of wisdom

Perceives this wickedness was not on them

Rightly lays the charge upon the wicked priests

Pacified the king, hope war to stem

Abinadi, his prophecies are known

In sorrow, and in bloodshed, they are shown

Mosiah 21

Humble, humble, humble in the dust

Thrice with our arms, we’ve tried to free ourselves

Humble, humble humble, we will trust

Through grief and mourning, faithfulness compelled

Sorrow, sorrow, sorrow, we confess

The prophets blood upon our hands, in tears

Sorrow, sorrow, sorrow for this mess

The harvest of our sin and pride for years

Hopeful, hopeful, hopeful for your grace

Through covenant we bind ourselves to thee

Hopeful, hopeful, hopeful to see your face

And through your mighty arm find liberty

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord

Our life through thee, though broken, is restored

Mosiah 22

Deliverance from bondage and oppression

Fill the hearts and minds of those that toil

Knowing it can come, not by aggression

The council how their enemy to foil

Gathering their family and their livestock

Midst the cover of the darkened night

With quietness of infant child and flock

Passed into the wilderness in flight

Deliverance from bondage and oppression

As the Jews, who passed through open sea

Came as faith in God, their true expression

With trust in his deliverance, set free

Mosiah 23

The Lord seeth fit to chasten his people

He trieth their patience, and faith

But he who putteth his trust in the Lord

Shall be lifted up in their days

Hushing our fears and crying to God

For years, we’ve toiled and sweat

Waiting up upon the arm of the Lord

Our faces tears have wet

Is he really there? Does he know my name?

Can I trust in his promises, sure?

With all of my heart delivered to thee

Through fire, it’s made pure

I’m brought into bondage and none could deliver

Except for Israel’s king

The God of Isaac and Abraham

His mighty power to bring

Mosiah 24

In the midst of their afflictions

The voice of God was heard

Lift up your head, which hangeth down

Find comfort in my word

I know the covenant ye have made

Holy unto me

I’ll ease the burdens on your back

I’ll make them light to thee

But stand and witness of my name

Your voice cries from the dust

With surety ye can proclaim

That in my arm ye trust

Mosiah 25

Nephi’s seed and Mulek’s seed

Gather now in one

Read the words of Zeniff’s branch

In wonder, everyone

Filled with joy at God’s great power

Filled with sorrow too

For all the slain and fallen ones

Their lives gone much too soon

Gathered to receive the word

Alma did proclaim

Faith in the redeeming Lord

Repentance through his name

Mosiah 26

The rising generation

Like the rising of the tide

Has the power to lift us up

Or sink in sin and pride

Many lost and many strayed

A drift and lost at sea

Currents of deception swirled

Pulling forcefully

Our captain, Christ, will reach for us

With power o’er earth and sea

When we cry out, he’ll pull us in

And rescue you and me

Mosiah 27

Equity among all men decreed

Unbelievers with those who believed

Respect for one another, every man

Esteeming his neighbour as himself the plan

Tearing down the church and Alma’s soul

Flattering the people, hearts he stole

Leading them from God, away to sin

Rebelling ‘gainst their God, against their kin

Through faith and prayer an angel did descend

Shaking earth that heart and mind might bend

Astonished and acknowledged they had sinned

Repenting and with hope their words rescind

Lain in silence, Alma overcome

Weight of sin, can number everyone

Born again, redeemed of the Lord

Rejoice in his repentance through the Word

Mosiah 28

The workings of the spirit of the Lord

Turned these sinners hearts towards their foe

Lost and fallen enemies to reach

Their redeemer love they too, shall know

The Lord said to their father, Let them go

For many shall believe and will repent

In my power thy sons, I will deliver

In my spirit, and for my sake they’re sent

Mosiah 29

Rare is his humility

Mosiah, King

Precious his humanity

Freedom bring

Common the mistakes of men

Unjust kings

Sorrow with the sins they sew

Oppression's sting

Voices of the people reign

Liberty sing

Choices made with faithful hearts

Sovereignty cling
